ABOUT THE CONCERT
Trois Aquarelles (Three Watercolours) is a set of three pieces by the French flutist-composer Philippe Gaubert, completed in 1921. Despite the delicate title, these are fully developed movements rather than miniatures: Par un clair matin, cheerful and energetic; Soleil d'automne, gentle and touched with elegiac nostalgia; and a Serenade coloured by a Spanish or Basque lilt, evoking the region where Gaubert kept a summer home. Gaubert conceived the work for standard piano trio, violin, cello and piano, but sanctioned an equally effective version replacing the violin with flute, the instrument on which he was a celebrated virtuoso. CreArtBox performs it in that flute, cello and piano scoring.
