ABOUT THE CONCERT
Dawnlight is a chamber work for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano and electronics by the American composer Joshua Penman, written in 2017 and lasting about twelve and a half minutes; it was premiered by CreArtBox. A Yale and University of Michigan graduate who has also scored films and toured with his electroacoustic project Akara, Penman is drawn to music that alters consciousness and traces an inner journey of awareness. Here he joins live instruments with electronics in the meditative, luminous, cinematic idiom that runs through his concert work, the title itself suggesting first light breaking over darkness.
