ABOUT THE CONCERT
Chesapeake belongs to Pieces of Place, an ongoing series by composer, violist, and vocalist Hannah Selin for chamber ensemble with or without electronics that explores the meeting point of geology, ecology, and personal memory. Written in 2021, this movement evokes the northeastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, where Selin spent childhood summers, layering superimposed timescales—geological, human, and tidal—into its texture; she has noted that rising seas may one day submerge the very peninsula on which it was conceived. Selin, based in New York, works across composition and performance, and her music often braids acoustic instruments with electronic sound. CreArtBox performs it here in its own chamber scoring.
