ABOUT THE CONCERT
12 Queens Preludes is an evening-length cycle for flute and piano by Guillermo Laporta, the Spanish flutist-composer who co-founded CreArtBox in New York with pianist Josefina Urraca. Composed in 2020 and running some forty-four minutes, it reimagines the prelude - traditionally a brief piece that ushers in something greater - as a meditation on life itself as "an endless prelude," where meaning becomes clear only once larger events arrive. Across its movements the music turns flashes of remembering the past into sound: trust and vertigo, uncertainty and assurance, ambiguity and remembrance. Laporta (flute) and Urraca (piano) perform it here, in the pairing for which it was written.
